As you may have seen in the Christmas post, Uncle Kyle gave Ella this awesome kit for making her own Starry Night masterpieces. Yesterday was her first attempt:
The kit came with a booklet about van Gogh, where we learned that he and Ella have 3 things in common: they are both Dutch, both have minsters for dads and both discovered their love for making art in their childhood. The kit also included what is needed to recreate van Gogh's work: stickers to block out where the stars would go, a couple different paint rollers to give it the brush stroke look, a stencil to paint the black town parts and a box of pastels to add the details.
Starry Night has always been a favorite painting of ours. The girls' star and moon themed bedroom was inspired by it and their ceiling is painted in a similar style. Ella took the print off her wall to look at for inspiration.
And, ta-da!, here is the finished product. This was such a fun thing to keep Ella busy most of yesterday. The materials in the kit are reusable, so Ella is already talking about how she's going to make her next one differently. She's pretty excited to send this first attempt along to her gift-giver, so look for a work of art in your mailbox soon, Uncle Kyle! :)
